Appearance

Build: Because Naoto wears gender-neutral clothing that do not emphasize her feminine features, it is only estimated by a visual glanceover that she is very small of stature and thin. 
Hair: Naoto's hair is a deep blue color that almost appears black in dim lighting. It is cut short and combed around her eyes and nape of the neck. She almost always wears a officer's cap so the shape of her bangs is unclear.
Eyes: The deep blue of her hair seems to reflect the same trait on her eye color. Her eyes, although a beautiful shade of navy blue, usually harbors a strong personality that gets straight to the point and does not like to mess around. However, sometimes, Naoto may smile and when she does, her eyes light up and shine. Sometimes, she wears glasses that are not prescription but they are mere glass lenses that allow her to think in a difficult situation.
Clothing: Even on a day off, Naoto will wear her school uniform. However, her uniform isn't what someone may think it consists of. Considering her serious personality, many mistake her for a boy especially when they see her in a gakuran school uniform.

History: Since she was young, Naoto loved to read; Fiction was her favorite because she imagined that she could be anything she wanted in her mind. Eventually, Naoto stumbled across a detective novel left behind by her parents in the house library. She instantly came to love the concept and decided to become a detective when she was older. 

Since her parents died in a car crash when she was 4, her older brother Kanji had raised her by himself. He was, in her eyes, the epitome of being a man. He was strong, always kept his head, was reliable, and protected her from the outside world. She wanted to become just like him. 

Fast forward to the present, Naoto, although regarded as a progidy in the field of criminal investigation, is still taunted by the other police officers for still being a 'child.' And, since the precinct was comprised of mainly men, Naoto was an outcast because of her gender. She grew angry and vowed that she would prove to them that although she may be a woman, Naoto could still become the best detective in the country.

what was Naoto like when her mom and dad died?

She didn't really understand at the time what death meant. She was so young that even though her brother Kanji who was 19 at the time told her that they had died, Naoto thought that just meant that they were in a deep sleep and would one day wake up and show up on their doorstep again. This was primarily influenced by the fantasy books that were read to her as she would go to bed every night. It wasn't until she was older that she learned what the meaning of death was.

16. Her crime solving abilities were highly recognized in police departments in the town she grew up in. After becoming a detective at such a tender age, Naoto has solved 5 homicide cases.

As a side note, Naoto is most frequently recognized as a boy and most aren't even able to tell she is a woman by the formal way she has of speaking and the way she presents herself. If she were to speak in Japanese, she would say the more masculine 'boku wa' instead of 'watashi wa.'
